Cherry Bookmatch Cutting Board

The Cherry Bookmatch cutting board on this page features a centuries-old woodworking technique known as bookmatching. If you split a board down the middle and open the two halves like a book, you will find that the grain patterns are mirror images of each other. We glue the two Cherry halves together to form the front of the board and repeat the process for the back of the board. Finally, we trim the edges with Walnut, and the finished product does indeed remind us of a book lying open on the counter. We think you’ll appreciate the elegant simplicity of this design.

Ken Goodwin: "I love looking at wood. To me, the grain patterns trace the processes of nature. You can see the kinship with eddies in a stream or the curves of a sand dune. I created these boards simply to let the wood speak for itself."
