Piet Mondrian was a Dutch painter (1872-1944) renowned for his geometric abstract paintings, which invariably employed straight lines and rectangular fields of whites, grays, and primary colors. Ken Goodwin: "Mondrian is one of my favorites. I thought it would be fun to see his two-dimensional designs expressed as three-dimensional sculpture. I love what happens when the black lines turn a corner and continue around to the back of the cutting board. I had to develop a few special techniques to create these boards, and I’m very happy with the results. To represent the light grey square in the upper left corner, I chose Alder wood. The small red rectangle is Padauk, a naturally red-colored wood from Africa."
