Mondrian Cutting Board Series         Mondrian 1

Piet Mondrian was a Dutch painter (1872-1944) renowned for his geometric abstract paintings, which invariably employed straight lines and rectangular fields of whites, grays, and primary colors. Our Mondrian cutting boards are a light-hearted homage to this great artist. Their dramatic colors occur naturally in the woods and are not the result of any staining process. (The colors may change over time as the woods age and are exposed to sunlight.) These amazing boards immediately draw the eye to the bold simplicity of their design. We guarantee you will not find anything like them except here at Designer Cutting Boards.

Ken Goodwin: "Mondrian is one of my favorites. I thought it would be fun to see his two-dimensional designs expressed as three-dimensional sculpture. I love what happens when the black lines turn a corner and continue around to the back of the cutting board. I had to develop a few special techniques to create these boards, and I’m very happy with the results. To represent the light grey square in the upper left corner, I chose Alder wood. The small red rectangle is Padauk, a naturally red-colored wood from Africa."
