Mondrian Cutting Board Series         Mondrian 3

Piet Mondrian was a Dutch painter (1872-1944) renowned for his geometric abstract paintings, which invariably employed straight lines and rectangular fields of whites, grays, and primary colors. Our Mondrian cutting boards are a light-hearted homage to this great artist. Their dramatic colors occur naturally in the woods and are not the result of any staining process. (The colors may change over time as the woods age and are exposed to sunlight.) These amazing boards immediately draw the eye to the bold simplicity of their design. We guarantee you will not find anything like them except here at Designer Cutting Boards.

Ken Goodwin: This cutting board utilizes Purpleheart to represent the blue rectangle in Mondrian’s painting. I have experimented with food safe-blue coloring to see if I could achieve a deeper blue, but I haven’t been fully satisfied with the results. For now the Purpleheart will be a gesture in the right direction. This was one of the first paintings where Mondrian employed a double line. While it seems like a minor departure from his previous work, it actually heralds a new direction in his that eventually lead to much more complex compositions—ones not lending themselves very well to cutting boards."
